Just a little FYI

Words of Mormon 1:7
And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the spirit of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will.

So I just wanted to give a quick update about "the call". With the new online system the church has, your bishop can actually check to see the status of your application. I awoke today to find out that my status has not changed and still says "ready for assignment" rather than "call letter sent". Alas, it looks like it will be a couple of more weeks until I get that big white envelope that tells me where I'll be living and serving for the next year and a half.

At first, I was pretty upset and a little bit depressed about having to wait another two weeks, especially because my best friend Jamie will most likely not be here when I get my call. I was wondering why it was taking so long! During church though, I had a couple of really enlightening and peaceful experiences that have not only helped me be more patient, but have taken away the anxiety I felt about the whole situation.

So, after starting out a little bit rough, I end the day grateful for the love I know Heavenly Father has for me and each one of us and even more excited for the opportunity to serve Him and help to bring the world His truth.

Nothing for me?

Guns N' Roses lyrics, although taken totally out of context, keep running through my head.

Sad woman take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience...
Patience

This week has been "off the hook" (I know people don't say that now, but did they ever?). Its been this way not so much because the things that have happened but because of the things that haven't. I find myself in unusually ornery moods depending on what the mail fails to deliver that day. Then at night I find myself suffering from anxiety hunger. (Good thing I watched " I can make you thin" on Sunday where we learned about how to recognize when our bodies really are hungry and when we are "emotional eating".) Anyway, its been a while since I've felt so on-edge, but it'll be O.K. Next week is just right around the corner.

On a more exciting note, here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks. I have to say that I am surprised that I'm the first one to post any from the 50th celebration!

The weener-mobile came to my complex!

... and gave me a weeni whistle. All I could think of was Neil from the Santa Claus exclaiming, " a weenie whistle!"

I tag myself

I'm guilty of two things. 1) Blog slacking. A couple of posts are in the making but its been difficult to upload the pics. 2) I saw this tag on someone else's blog and decided to tag myself. Is that tacky? Oh well, I just couldn't resist.

What will they think?

I'm one of those people who likes to be distracted by the T.V. when I run. Sometimes I feel kind of like a runner-poser because of it, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Right?

So as I was running last night I realized that I had come once again at an hour of T.V. famine - a time where the only things on are CSI Miami (I refuse to watch any kind of crime show. Talk about giving a girl nightmares) or sports (no thank you). But, amidst all of the drivel I did find two shows that I could run to. The first, Little People Big World on TLC. The second, the full-length animated classic Brother Bear. You've probably never actually heard of Brother Bear. Its about an eskimo who , as a consequence of his pride and irrisponsibility, turns into a bear and has a lot of interesting adventures on his path back to self discovery. Moving. Very moving.

So, there I was. Trapped in between two choices. Truthfully, I actually did want to watch Brother Bear. But I was afraid of what all of the hard core gym goers would think of a girl watching not just the Disney channel, but Brother Bear! I know I shouldn't be this self conscious but you never know who will see you at the gym - an old high school crush, someone in a class, or worse - your potential E.C.! (Ok, I'm really not this concerned about who I see at the gym, but a little dramatisation is fun sometimes) After much deliberation I decided to go with Little People Big World and was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining it was to watch the twins interact and also to watch the parents' celebrate their 20 year anniversary.

Maybe next time I'll have enough courage to watch something on the Disney Channel. I'll let you know if I do.

P.S. If you ever are in the mood to watch T.V. at the gym, let me make a few suggestions:

Don't ever be fooled into thinking you'll enjoy watching A Baby Story while you work out. There's just something about watching a woman screaming in pain during delivery that just sucks all of the motivation to keep running out of you.

Sitcoms are usually a good choice. But beware of Seinfeld. While a funny show to watch on the couch, its a little slow moving to watch at the gym.

Fox News always keeps me entertained

Surprisingly entertaining: The Price is Right with Drew Carey

Worst thing to watch during a workout: The food channel. I want to throw up whenever I watch the "good eats" guy down a burger and fries.

My Big Day

I am ashamed. Has it really been 2 weeks since my last entry?

The last couple of weeks have been lots of fun and in the spirit of lists, here are a few highlights:

Took an impromptu sleepover trip to SLC with Jamie to see Be Kind Rewind, eat some good (although a little overpriced) food and sleepover at Grandma & Grandpa Holt's house (thanks guys!). It was a great spontaneous getaway and its something that's been on our pre-mission list for a while.

Discovered that its worth it to pay the extra $1.50 to get the name brand floss

Recommitted myself to my education

Celebrated Jamie's 21st B-Day at a Swiss resort in Midway. Nothing better than sitting in the hot tub while people dressed in lederhosen bring you fresh squeezed orange juice. Just kidding. But, it was really fun to sit in the hot tub outside while the snow was falling! And, midway is just a cute little place, you couldn't ever go wrong there.

Said goodbye to Trent

And last but not least, my mom and I made a yummy birthday cake (french vanilla with chocolate frosting and strawberries). Which brings me to my next exciting piece of news....

My Birthday!

I have a lot of mixed emotions about being a year older. In fact, its actually the first time that I've ever wanted to stay young. But, two things have helped me to be excited to be a year older: First, a friend reminded me that the 20's is definitely a glamorous decade in our lives - I'm definitely excited to be becoming a more mature and "glamorous" woman. And the second, a song from Care Bears 2 entitled "Growing Up". I hope all of you who've seen this film will appreciate these lyrics!

Growing up
It's something you can measure
Growing up
It happens every day
Being young
Is something you can treasure
Life is good when you're
Growing up!

Haha, it makes me laugh every time. Anyway, sorry for the long post and I hope each of you have a fabulous day on my birthday!

Note: The clock just struck 12, and I'm happy to say, it feels good to be 21!
